Mersea island is a 45 minutes bike ride from our house. It is a narrow, up and down, but interesting bike ride. Of course, a bike and 2 cars can never pass on a street, so you just hope people will see you and wait in a turn to see if other cars are coming the other way. You can pick apples, pears and berries along the way and the country side is breathtaking. Oh did I tell you that you pass a military base on your way. We actually heard some rifles in full action and a lot of signs saying: Do not touch military equipment as it can explode and kill you. Well well... let's head to the ocean! There was a fare and a boat race that day, so there was some local action going on. Of course Etienne and I were probably the only non local people there, so we tried to blend in as much as possible. I attempted my best impressions of english expressions (in a future blog post I promise), we sat on hay stacks, we ate jack potatoes and toasties (grill cheese) and drank local cider and beer. We even tried to fake it and entered the sailing club like we were members, but we didn't have our Sperry shoes on. Oupsss fail! Etienne was kind enough to bare the dead fish smell to accompany me to try the famous Mersea oysters. Apparently Justin Timberlake only eats West Mersea oyster bar oysters... :) We listened to some local and live musicians (some good and bad...) and waited for the fireworks to start. Since it gets very chilly in the evening and the fireworks weren't starting, we had to head home with the bus. Etienne helped the poor new bus driver to pass throughout the narrow roads of the island and we heard the fireworks from the bus. Ha ha, better luck next time!

Here's a little sneak peak of our neighbourhood (Colchester, Essex).... I have soooo much to tell you about the city... good and bad things.. but I will take the time to sit down and write a good blogpost about it as soon as I get rid of all the boxes in the house. At least you have a little idea with pictures of the streets we walk by everyday.
So after months of anxiety waiting for our visas and not knowing when we were gonna leave Montreal, we finally took possession of our new HOME! On Tuesday the 26th of August, after a little road trip around beautiful England, we were ready for our new life in England!
All of our boxes were filling the rooms from top to bottom! It was interesting to figure out ways to jam a box spring and a chester drawers in narrow stairs. Also, all the sizes of doors are different here, so it was definitely an adjustment! We were pleasantly surprised by the house considering we rented it from the Internet! It is a 2 levels terraced house. Our big surprise was the attic! We can jam all of our camping and scuba diving gear and it is very easily accessible! You will see more pictures of the house in future blogs and once we have settled in! |
