Etienne and I had a big life decision to make a year ago. We had the choice of moving to the US or to the UK. Moving to the US would have meant that we would have been closer to our family and friends and living a life that is a closer to our roots and traditions (and maybe less frustrations :) ...). Moving to the UK on the other hand was a much scarier thought, but the chance of being in one of the biggest city hub in the world for cheap flights around Europe was definitely something that resonated with us. Etienne and I promised ourselves not to get caught up in our routine once we were settled in the UK, not let our work take all the space and take all the chances we had. I probably could have chosen a job where I would have worked 50 hours a week, having 2 weeks of vacations a year and a good salary, but I chose to work in a school witch in the UK, means 3 months OFF throughout the whole year!!! = more travelling time!!! I decided to give myself a challenge for 2015 to make sure my words were put in action. 12 countries in 12 months! I made it!!!! 12 in 12 challenge completed! check! Country #12: EdinburghWe went to visit a friend for the weekend in Edinburgh and experienced the cool vibes of the city. Edinburgh is young and hip and there are great walks around the city. Just make sure to put some layers on! Country #11 Hygge in CopenhagenDanes are the happiest people on earth and you can definitely feel it in the air when you visit the beautiful city of Copenhagen. The Danes invented something that makes us forget all about the slushy cold weather of November: “Hygge”! This word translate to “the complete lack and absence of anything annoying” and means cozy apartments, candlelight rooms at any time of the day, and good people and food around. Country #10 Walk the channels in AmsterdamOur Amsterdam-London flight was cancelled on our way back from Montreal, so we got the chance to spend a day in Amsterdam. We were so tired, but we tried to make the best of it. We knew that there was a lot of bikes and channels in Amsterdam, but not THAT much. This city is soon cool! Country #9 Fall in MontrealOk ok I'm cheating I know... I visited Montreal in January 2015 so I can't technically count it twice. I could change the title of the challenge for 12 travels in 12 months... Country #8 Beach bums in PortugalI met my mom in Portugal for a week in August and it was magical! We spend 4 days beaching in Albufeira in the Algarve region and 3 days walking the steep streets of Lisbon. Country #7 Road trip in FranceEtienne and I packed our new car and went for a 2 weeks road trip to France. Lots of driving, but it was sooo worth it! Felt right at home in France! Country #6: La dolce vita in Italia (Tuscany and Rome)Drinking wine in our Tuscan villa with friends and walking the magical streets of Rome was awesome, but the best part, was spending the week with my sister that I miss so much!!!
