Etienne and I have been thinking of buying a car here just to have the freedom of leaving for road trips to discover the region whenever we want. Also, we will have a lot of visitors during the summer yeah!, so it would be convenient. We found out that buying a car before the 1st year of residency in a new country is quite complicated with all the insurances. We thought we would rent a car for the weekend and see how we felt about it. So Etienne braved the right-side crazy driving with the tiniest roads and most confusing round abouts at every corner. And we were off to some great aventures! DAY 1: Suffolk coast, Snape maltings, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Lavenham, Corn Craft ltd, Driving on the right side... still not used to the idea... Pigs running for their lives... Snape maltingsWe made a stop at Snape malting which has a collection of shops and galleries set in an old mill. They also have a farmers market and artists workshops. We found 2 great stores: Fresh Food Pantry and House and Garden. which is the most beautiful furniture store. http://www.snapemaltings.co.uk AldeburghWe had a picnic at Aldeburgh on the beach and visited the main street of the village afterwards. Charming little place! ThorpenessThorpeness is a 400 people village and is just North of Aleburgh. A farmer named Ogilvie turned the land into a private fantasy holiday village and invites his friends during the summer months. A notable feature of the village is the"House in the Clouds" that used to be a water tower now transformed into a house. The rapeseed fields are everywhere in the Suffolk region. It is so beautiful to see patches of bright yellow everywhere! They make rapeseed oil with it. Corn craft tea roomWe had our first proper multi layers afternoon tea at the Corn craft tea room! Ptits sandwich pas de croute, coconut and chocolate cakes and scones! Mmmm... they didn't warned us that we were not suppose to eat the whole thing thought... LavenhamLavenham has been described the finest medieval town of England where you can find crooked houses, boutique hotels and Michelin restaurants. DAY 2: Maldon, Bradwell on sea (Dengie national reserve), Burnham on crouch... (oui je sais ils ont des nom à coucher dehors haha!!)MaldonAfter driving a bit around Essex, we had lunch in Maldon in a cozy pub on the seaside. Maldon holds lots of sailing boats and you can find many boat trips like an afternoon tea barge cruise for example... Bradwell on seaWe visited the Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall whitch is one of the oldest church in England. The building dates from the 7th century. You can walk along the ocean from there and see Mersea island on the other side. They had a scarecrow contest in town and they were everywhere! Getting married at the church, repairing the hood of a car, laying in a field... It was pretty funny! Burnham on crouchOverlooking the crouch harbour from the terrace with a beer! The walk along the sea was also very nice! Hope you enjoyed our little 2 days-roadtrip down the Suffolk and Essex coast! I made this post to show friends and family our surroundings, but also for anybody visiting the area wondering what to do and to see! Don't hesitate to write back if you have any comments or questions!
